Wednesday, May 14, 2003 ::: Debunker Dan Everytime someone finds out that I am – how do you say – adverse to spiders, they always come back with "Did you know the average human swallows eight spiders per year while they sleep?" But I've never fallen for that lame statistic, because logically it just never made sense. How would anyone get that figure? Did they do studies? Did they set up some high-tech laboratory with a cot and a willing participant who is prone to sleeping with their mouth open? Does some scientist in a while lab coat watch outside a two way-mirror making check-marks on a clipboard everytime a spider crawls in the poor subject's mouth? What kind of freak would volunteer for such an absurd experiment? So I went to snopes.com to debunk that urban legend, which as it turns out is totally not true: read for yourself. So I don't want to hear it anymore. And yes, I know spiders are good because they kill mosquitos. Don't care. ::: posted by dan at 12:31 PM :: [ link ] :: (0) comments
