Virginia's got a new ad campaign to curb cradle robbing:
Don't go there? That sounds like something that would appeal more to teenaged girls than it would adult men. And the website's hot pink color scheme doesn't clarify anything either. I could be in marketing, too: "Talking to a hot 15-year-old? Talk to the hand!" or "Oh no you just didn't! She's only 16!" See?
Anyway, read all about the ad campaign at Salon. The most interesting part of the article is about how their initial marketing concepts for the ads had pictures of tarted-up teenagers trying to look sexy, which only served to prompt focus group discussions about whether or not they looked old enough to approach in a bar. Um, not exactly the results they were looking for.

I listened to the launch of this campaign on MPR (shut up, I'm almost 40, yes I listen to public radio). The people behind it are sooooo incredibly stupid to think this is gonna work. Mostly because the logic behind it is just soooooooo incredibly stupid. And the fact that during the whole interview I kept saying "Gads! That's just the most incredibly stupid thing I've ever heard!" and "Lady, shut up now. You can't possibly sound any more stupid." But then she spoke again and proved me wrong. But then again, I was talking out loud to myself while driving down the road, so who am I to know what stupid is.

This has got to rank up there with "Just Say No" in terms of effectiveness. The taxpayers of Virginia have to be thrilled to know this is where their money is going.
