Sufie

I was fortunate enough to see Sufjan Stevens in concert this evening at the 400 Bar (home of the most disgusting urinals this side of the bus station) and I thought he was awesome. He's one of my new favorites, and B*Dubb accompanied me this time. I'm pretty sure that B*Dubb didn't appreciate the music, but I appreciate the hell out of him going because I didn't have to stand there by myself like at the last five concerts I've attended. Everyone hates my taste in music. Anyway, here is yet another bad camera phone pic of a concert for you to (not) enjoy:

I'm trying to convince you to go listen to his music. Honestly, he's great. They even played him on The O.C. the other day, if you're the type of person who needs popular validation before you can try something out for yourself.

I can see you in ten years Dan. Two words "freeform jazz"
p.s. I can't wait to hear Lukes secret.

Almost all of my favorite music is featured on the OC (which I watch religiously) and now I feel the need to validate myself when I talk about music like "I swear I saw Death Cab in '02 when they toured with Dismemberment Plan." The only worse indie rock name dropping show is the Gillmore Girls (which I also watch religiously).

Nice way to insult our intelligence while trying to entice us to listen! LOL

Hmmm...never heard of him. Will try to listen from home tonight. Hey, where do you find out who's playing where in Mpls online?? City Pages??

By Blogger Kiddo78, at 11:51 AM

Yeah, that was rather snotty of me. Sorry Christian.

Yeah Kiddo, mostly I look in CityPages, but sometimes I'll check out the online schedules for Fine Line, First Ave, and 400 Bar since most of the bands I like usually play at those venues. I usually miss my favorites, though. I find out a week later that they played somewhere.

Oh, and I don't watch The OC. Gilmore Girls is another story, of course, but I gave up on the OC after what's her name tried to kill herself in Tiajuana. Give me a break.

I didn't hate it...but that trumpet guy seriously needed more practice. I did think it was interesting and kind of good. A 2 1/2 stars for material and a 3 stars for presentation. Some of the songs I could translate into that "I'm quirky yet totally mainstream weird" kind of way. That one song about what to say to a girl trying on a dress could have been plucked directly from a scene in any one of the WB's "tweentysomething" shows.

PS I thought the taller keyboard girl/percussion/back-up singer was super cute, she should call me sometime.

The OC is the best crappy TV ever. It's so bad it's good. Not like the Gillmore Girls which is just plain good.

Oh Dan,who needs the O.C.You are the only popualar validation anyone needs.

OKAY - I am going to sound totally lame now-- well here goes....What kind of music is it anyways?

He's like folkly pop music, but he's kind of eccentric. It takes a couple listens to really appreciate it. It's kind of quiet and moody. He's not really all that popular so I wouldn't feel lame for not knowing who he is if I were you. The only reason I ever even heard of him is because Amazon.com recommended him to me.

Suffie wrote an entire album about my lovely state of Michigan, including the tragic/horrible Flint area and obscure small towns in northern MI. I less-than-three him.

Tellingly, my popular validation for Sufie came from NPR, not the O.C. NPR just screams cool doesn't it?
