Gilmore Girls Send Off

I'm very sad about GG being over for the season. I'm having a bit of separation anxiety. I know I have my DVD sets to keep my company all summer long, but it's just not the same. But at least it was a good finale to probably the best season yet (well, tied with Season One anyway), and although it focused a little bit too much on Lane and her band going on tour (because honestly, who cares), it rallied at the end.

I'm not sure how I feel about Rory quitting Yale after one harsh critique, because it didn't really seem that in character considering Rory's usual career drive. But the drama and tension it created between her and her mom is brilliant, and after such a rough season for Lorelie and Emily, the producers still had the balls to pile the anger and distrust even higher. Sigh. I love you Gilmore Girls.

I saw the big proposal coming from miles and miles away, so that was no surprise, but it was done so well that it seemed sincere. All in all, it was a great season capper.

Now only if I could find a picture of shirtless Kirk from the last episode. I want to tape it to my mirror so that if I ever feel bad about how scrawny I look in a swimsuit, I can look at that picture and think about how it could always be worse. A lot worse. A lot lot worse.

Update: Thanks to the anonymous poster in the comments, here is the picture of Kirk that is so good for my own self esteem:

Here's your screencap from last week: http://www.toomuchfreetime.net/archives/gilmore_girls/index.html#000754

I still have not recovered from Kirk's chest. It is possibly the most disturbing chest I've ever seen. I guess I give the guy credit for being confident enough to allow it to be filmed, but I honestly had to hold my hand up and block his chest in order to watch the scene.

Yet I still went to the link and looked at the picture...

I missed it! Who proposed? Did anyone accept?

So when do we get to see Luke's chest? That's a bod I want to see again and again...

Tivo, who I normally love unreservedly, cut off the end of the episode this week. Or the WB ran it at the wrong time. In any case, I missed the grand proposal.

I read about it on TWOP, but then couldn't stop imagining Lorelai talkking like Maeby: "Marry me!" Glad to hear it was sincere.

My Tivo totally cut off my episode too - but people have filled me in. I want to buy the DVDs but I can't justify the expense! I guess I'll be stuck with ABC family reruns.

Besides the answer to the question "Why does Kirk's chest look like that creature floating in the tank in Dune?" -- What I want to know is: Who played the mysterious steamroom Illuminatus with the sonorous voice? The character has the potential to be GG's answer to The Smoking Man.

My eyes! The show must be good to be worth looking at that.

biglug: Your Tivo, my ReplayTV, everybody else's Tivo... apparently this wasn't the fault of our PVRs, but instead, the WB running it over, thereby guaranteeing that nobody Tivoing it would get to see the end. Grr!!!

The thing on his chest didn't bother me nearly as much as his out of shape pear body. Poor Kirk. Gross.

Have you ever alternately laughed and gagged? I tell you, it hurts. So good.

That thing, Kirk's thing (there's no other word for it, as it's bigger than a nub and smaller than a hump) makes me wonder if there's a mini-Kirk that might just burst out of his chest at any moment. Which Kirk could then put to work, making him richer than he already is. (I found that absolutely great, because I've long wondered how Kirk spends all his money. Yes, I wonder about fictional characters and their budgets more than I keep track of my own finances.)

Dan,thanks for keeping me on your friends' list despite imp_perfect's inactivity. News to all the GG-loving posters: My Amy Sherman-Palladino stalking plot has been propelled further as I am moving to California next month. Which I'm hoping is the reason my blog's so hopelessly out-of-date...

Readers of Don Martin cartoons in Mad Magazine would've found Kirk's body familiar; for example: http://www.nachshon.org.il/~itzs/Don%20Martin/html/cave2.htm

I love that Laurelai proposed to Luke rather than the other way around because we always see Luke pining for Laurelai and notsomuch the other way around... but by her proposing, she shows her appreciation for him and how much she cares. Good looks Gilmore crew. --a silly little girl called Jackie
