Lindsay and Lily

The new Prairie Home Companion movie is shooting here in the Twin Cities in the next few weeks. We don't get too many big-named celebrities around these parts, so I get all buzzy-brained and starry-eyed when I think about the prospect of bumping into one of these people around town. Check out this list of uppercrusters who will be hanging out in my hometown this summer:

• Woody Harrelson
• Garrison Keillor
• Kevin Kline
• Lindsay Lohan
• Lyle Lovett
• John C. Reilly
• Maya Rudolph
• Meryl Streep
• Lily Tomlin

I've already got plans to stalk Lindsay Lohan while she's in town, just for the tabloid fodder and perhaps to witness the inevitable cocaine binging. And Meryl Streep and Maya Rudolph would also be fun to peep on, although for less tawdry reasons. But the real goal here, the absolute pinnacle of mind-blowing ecstasy for dan, would be meeting Lily Tomlin. Seriously. K-Mack will tell you that I have a slight obsession with her. So Lily, if you're out there, wear polyester or something equally washable while in Minneapolis, because if I bump into you on the street, I will throw up on you.

Last time I attempted to be on a movie set that was shooting in Minneapolis, it was 1991, the movie was called Untamed Heart, and it ended in disappointment. I came thisclose to making it on screen for a pivotal mall-shopping scene, but I guess my takes only made the cutting room floor. Which I guess is okay, since the movie was THE SUCK anyway. I did snap some pictures paparazzi-style of the production, though, so I've got some practice for when Lindsay and Lily get here. I'll find you, Lindsay and Lily. Mark my words.

Scenes from my one and only foray into Hollywood filmmaking:

If you find Lindsay, buy her a sandwich for me and tell her she was cuter as a redhead.

i have a friend with hotel KONNEKSHUNS and she happens to know where the movie people will be staying. we're tracking lindsay down and feeding her.

Indeed. I second (third) the idea. In fact feed her 2 sandwhiches and tell her she looking like Hilary Duff. That aught to wake her up.

I too love lilly tomlin. After thinking about it I think it stems from listening to her Edith Ann record 32,000 times on my fischer price record player.I do not love Lindsay Lohan, probably because I never listened to her record

Lily is the best - I especially liked 80's Lily (All of Me, Big Business). So fun.

Please please God tell me that you don't own Untamed Heart. Please. I realize you haven't admitted owning it - but a firm denial is really necessary on this point.

PS I used to find LiLo's boobs totally hypnotising, but now I can't stand to look at her. Don't bother with sandwiches, skip straight to mayo and butter.

Dan owns the movie on VHS and had/has the poster in his basement all during high school and college. I don't know when he decided he "hated" that movie, news to me...Dan and K-Mack used to make me watch it all the time. And I know for a fact it was one of Dan's favorite movies to watch while working at the Adventures in Video.

Funny how people's tastes change when they are tyring to be all cool on a blog.

Here goes my weekly debunking of Brent's "memory":

I never owned an Untamed Heart poster. The posters that hung in my basement were: Interview with the Vampire, Pulp Fiction, Dead Man, The Hudsucker Proxy, The Last Seduction, Jurassic Park, Lone Star, The Piano, and I had a Truth About Cats and Dogs cutout.

I never watched Untamed Heart while working at the video store (I think he's thinking of Sabrina or Grease, the two movies I watched in abnormal amounts)

I never liked Untamed Heart as a movie. I just liked the fact that I tried to be in it and that it was filmed in recognizable places around town.

I did own a copy of the movie on VHS at one point. He got that part right. I've also considered buying it on widescreen DVD so that I could do a frame by frame search for my hand or coat or stray body part. I know I gotta be in there somewhere.

Hi, this is Georgia, Dan's old boss from Adventures in Video. If Dan wasn't watching The Neverending Story, The Goonies, or Karate Kid, he was for sure watching Untamed Heart. He was always telling people how great Marisa Tomei was in that movie and how he was in the movie. And I will never forget his impersonation of Rosie Perez from that movie, it's freaking hilarious. I do remember giving Dan two posters from Untamed Heart - one was the pre-release poster and the second was the actual "Now Showing" poster. He's quite the colletor of anything Marisa Tomei...don't even get me started on his My Cousin Vinny stage.

Dan,
I, too, love me some Lilly Tomlin but I don't think I come close to being obsessed. I have to say that I'm very intrigued. Can you please post about why you love Lilly? (BTW, I was once thisclose to Lilly as she spoke at a women's conference in Louisville, Ky. It was quite the thrill.)

Doh! You're busted Dan!

Although, I can confirm that untamed hearts was not any poster I remember him having (but my memory is cloudy). In fact, I do believe all his posters are still hanging in the basement. Except interview with a vampire. Zoe made him take it down.

Colleen, that Georgia post was just Brent being super funny.

I'm not sure why I love Lily Tomlin so much. It may have started with 9 to 5, but it's recently been solidified by her brilliant performance in Flirting With Disaster and I Heart Huckabees. If you haven't seen Flirting with Disaster yet, you should really give it a shot as soon as possible. Her performance toward the end of the movie is absolutely perfect.

I swear. You and Brent must sit around thinking of various ways to take advantage of my superior gullibility.

Crap, burned again.

I've added Flirting with Disaster to my Netflix queue. Thanks for the rec!
