By denverco, at 1:19 PM Can someone explain why this is funny. Am I missing something? Maybe I missed the lame sci-fi film it's emulating? By , at 1:38 PM Yeah. I'm lost. By Colleen, at 5:06 PM Me three. This is both pointless and creepy without a cultural reference. So, what movie/show/book is this from? By John, at 7:52 PM This is probably the literal reference being made here, but it's also funny just as the antithesis of the typical Family Circus style of comic cheese. They always seemed like an alien cult to me anyway. It also reminds me of the episode of The Simpsons where Lisa eats the extra spicy food and exclaims "I can see thru time!" So this post is all about nerd references. By dan, at 8:11 PM And here I thought it was a reference to FSMism (flying spaghette monster) http://www.venganza.org/ By Carlo, at 8:35 PM you think that it is funny, cos it is. Have you seen this comic?? the perry bible fellowship? I am a big fan of those. http://www.cheston.com/pbf/archive.html By duane, at 3:12 PM I have no idea which is scarier, this post, or the actual Family Circus cartoon before the editing. By Dennis!, at 4:12 PM There's a story in the Stephen King book "Night Shift" that has a librarian who performs a maneuver similar to this one on her unsuspecting victims. Or at least that's immediately what this picture reminded me of, making it completely disturbing and scary instead of funny. (P.S. I read this story, like, a year ago and I still get the creeps when I walk by the library.) By , at 11:28 AM this is funny on no levels, come on Dan By Fatty, at 7:42 AM this is funny at first, but the more i look at it, the more it creeps me out. and for those of you that are confused, i believe it's a reference to Cthulu. at least it came up when i searched Cthulu in Google images. he is the "fictional" god referenced in many H.P. Lovecraft stories. By , at 1:36 AM i think that it has something to do with the H.P. Lovecraft short story "the call of Cthulu" originally in the book it said that you couldnt say or write his name down correctly or it would "call" him to our world. also "captcha-methrofl" By , at 4:37 PM It is a reference to a mind flayer. They are also called Illithids. They have tentacles just like in the picture and they use psychic assault to immobilize a victim and either take them as slaves or eat their brains basically as is being started in the cartoon. Its funny. By Guy, at 10:51 AM < Back to Blog |
