The Best of Aught Five

Now that the year is finally over, and I'm officially sick of all things xmas, I have compiled my Best of 2005 List because it's never to late to jump on a bandwagon. This is mostly just a good way of replacing the xmas songs in my jukebox with something more palatable, but click on the icon below to read about all the stuff I liked last year:

Or just listen to my Top 40 of '05 in the Jukebox on the right. ------>

I think you should also have a category for "favorite and least favorite commericals"

omg... I love Life Aquatic, we actually named my car The Belafonte. I totally agree with your list of least favorite songs, maybe not green day... Except around here they had a Hurricane Katrina edition of the song,it was awful!

Impressive list. Much more music that I even got the chance to listen to.

You must not like The Decemberists very much because you only named two songs on your favorite songs of the year...

this makes me want to compile my own list but I think I will restrain since it would include such hits as humps and songs by death cab for cutie which would be in a normal persons best of list for 2004...
I feel bad for 2005 because I was all passionate about movies from 2004... Garden state,Eternal sunshine of the spottless mind, lost in translation *was that 2004?* but all i can seem to think of for 2005 is ... um, ...hmmmm,seriously I can't think of anything... I liked red eye? I also liked 40 year old virgin, as far as books I am so sad...my favorite is the way we eat by David Katz...it is the best book ever made...nevermind the fact that it was written in 2002.You really should read it,I am obsessed with it.I know you won't though since you still have not been moved to try a crumpett or my pumpkin sludge...

I was so sad,I wanted so much to like life aquatic...I kept saying to myself "come on your smart, you can get this"
I never did..I was just sadly lost.

Hey, what is the name of that movie that came out this year by Michael showalter? I can't remeber and I bet it is coming on DVD soon...

Watch out! The Harry Potter fans will descend on you like a flock of flying monkeys, screeching about how much they love the books.

A group of monkeys that fly would be called a flock, wouldn't it?

I know, it was a daring joke, wasn't it? Definitely playing with fire.

Stacy, are you talking about The Baxter? It didn't get very good reviews, but I guess we'll have to see for ourselves. Entertainment Weekly said that Stella was one of the ten best things on television this year, though. Too bad it slowly disappeared from Comedy Central's schedule.

I've got to tell you...I've loved you all along. HOWEVER, you just got like 10,000 more bonus love points by including Josh Rouse on your top list. He is awesome!

Great list. Picaresque was my favorite album of the year (though I would've picked two different songs from it ... Bagman's Gambit and Mariner's Revenge Song).

By Blogger Andrew Andrew, at 5:29 AM

I'm personally a big fan of The Infanta off Picaresque. I like the tune. Kinda makes me want to hop around like a crazy person.

We Both Go Down Together just kinda creeps me out. Let me make sure I have it straight...a rich guy kidnaps and rapes a poor girl from some kind of work camp, falls in love with her, and forces her to commit suicide with him because his parents are freaking out?

You should have categories for blogs: Best Blogs, Best Posts on Planetdan, Best Comments on Planetdan, etc.

i went to james frey's reading of my friend leonard this summer. he's really a badass mofo (in the super cool way) and he was pissed that he couldn't smoke while he read. i thought that was hot.

but then he went on oprah and i lost a bit of respect for the guy.

you and i have many of the same 'best films'. rock it!

No need for a "Best Comments" award 'cause we all know I would win. Sorry bitches, but it's true. You're out. Auf Wiedersehen.

I don't know if you have used Pandora.com, but I use it. I like Andrew Bird and Arcade Fire (tried them from your recommendations), and after entering other artists I liked I ended up with some of their songs in my radio stations -- and also a bunch of other great bands I'd never heard of.

I am ashamed to admit that I have developed a deep affection for all that is Harry Potter. But you see - I know I am a loser so - I won't hold it against you if you don't share my sentiments.

Rock on, Dan...

And thank you, thank you, thank you for spelling "Illinoise" right. I've seen countless -- supposedly venerable -- periodicals listing this in their 'best of...' lists and leaving off the '-e.' As a homophone-lover, if it is indeed a homophone, I find the omission of the '-noise' offensive. Happy '06.

Happy New Year Dan. And if you'd ever like someone to help you re-enact the key scenes of your 4th favorite film, then do let me know.
