Willy Wonka, Today.

It's no secret I have a small obsession with the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The other day I found a collage of the original stars, 25 years later. Sure, it's always interesting to see 50-year-old Oompa Loompa, but it was the picture of the modern day Augustus Gloop through me for a loop:

It looks like he showed up for the interview in character, with the original costume and everything. It really creeps me out in a Whatever Happened to Baby Jane kinda way.

You can see the whole collage of characters here.

Of course, all of this is available on the new edition DVD, but screw you for lookin' a gift horse in the mouth.

OMG,Rusty Goffe looks orange! Did that Oompa Loompa makeup mar him for life?

Wow, that was completely...weird.

I mean, it was neat and all but it screwed with some part of my brain that still thinks of Charlie and even bitchy ol' Veruca as kids...

I had the pleasure of working with Julie Dawn Cole (Veruca Salt) a few years ago. She completely rocks and has a great sense of humour about the effect the movie has had in her life. But I have to say...the way the WW fans would wait outside (people who hadn't even bought tickets to the show!) for her with the most obscure merchandise to sign was a little strange. Can you imagine living with that your whole life due to one movie you made as a young kid?

OMG... Charlie looks like he could be my dad's brother... Mike looks exactly the same... only without hair.

You're still the best looking Oompa Loompa around, Dan.

Dont you think Augustus could be the fat brother of Tom Hanks? Just a thought.

i love the original, too. the remake? not so much.

thanks dan. that is cool. now, can you make a collage where you pair those pics with them as the WW kids?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:14 PM

OMFG. And the fact that none of the other kids are in character makes it that much more creepy/pathetic.

Rusty Goffe, the oompa loompa is quite a cult celeb over here in the UK.

There used to be a low-rent cable channel here called "L!ve TV", which was basically soft porn and daytime telly.

They had various tacky shows, including topless darts and the "news bunny". THey also had the bouncy weather, which had Rusty on a trampolene, bouncing higher and higher as he read the weather forecast (he would start with south england, bouncing low, then up to north scotland, bouncing very high).

More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L!VE_TV

Ah... those were the (student) days.

I'd like to follow up on the request for a collage. I would like to see a new holiday bookmark this year, with kid character pic on one side and grown up WW character on the other. Dan, I trust you could come up with catchy holiday phrases to add to the bookmarks. Of course, you would also have to work your face into it, too. Please ponder and post some mock-ups.
