Unwanted Nostalgia

That new Trivial Pursuit 80's Edition commercial has left me baffled. I don't recognize anyone in the commercial except one of the Corys, Mrs. Garrett (who doesn't seem to have aged a day), and Kelly LeBrock (who, by the way, you no longer have to hate for being beautiful, because she ain't no more):

There might be a Run DMC guy in there. I dunno. Speaking of Mrs. Garrett, does anyone remember this clip from Facts of Life? It's this marijuana episode and the episode where Natalie almost gets raped while wearing a Charlie Chaplin costume that have forever scarred my psyche:

Tootie's Bong [FP]

Wait, is that Cyndi Lauper up there? I would hope not. A Trivial Pursuit commercial seems a little beneath her, even if she is past her heyday. Speaking of Cyndi, and since Halloween is coming up, here is a Halloween costume tip that I got from Bloghungry.com a while ago:

I got one...Downtown Julie Brown!

In the front, you have Tiffany, Mrs. Garrett (clearly high on Botox), Cyndi Lauper, one of the dudes from Run DMC, don't know the chick, and then Corey Feldman.

Second row is Kelly LeBrock, Downtown Julie Brown, can't really see that next guy, and then Tubbs from Miami Vice.

Top row is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and the dude who played the Incredible Hulk.

Okay, so I didn't do a whole helluva lot better.

Lou Ferigno from the Incredible Hulk! LOL
I thought was Tiffany as well...

By Blogger CampBlood, at 12:24 PM

OK, the chick in the cowboy hat is Charlene Tilton from Dallas & the guy in the upper middle is wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper... The guy from Run DMC is Daryl DMC McDaniels.

By Blogger CampBlood, at 12:33 PM

that is indeed Cyndi Lauper... she did a Dr. Pepper commercial recently too... eek.

By Blogger the other sarah, at 12:46 PM

I think they could have used some better 80s icons than that! How about Oliver North? What about the former Bears quarterback, Jim McMahon? Duran Duran? The Brat Pack? I think Bo Jackson would have even been a better representation than Kareem. Okay, tangent, over.

Um...I see dead people. No wait, I see (Row One: Tiffany, Mrs. Garett, Cyndi Lauper, Run DMC, Charlene Tilton (Dallas), Corey Feldman) (Row Two: Peg Bundy, Downtown Julie Brown, Tubbs from Miami Vice) (Row Three: J.J. Walker, middle guy? & Greg Brady). I think, anyway. Fun game!

By Blogger ntrudr, at 2:52 PM

I thought that was Greg Brady(what's his real name?)too! And isn't that Jody Whatley instead of Julie Brown? Happy Anniversary by the way Dan, you're blog is the BESTEST & most hilariousest!!
It's too weird cause I just had my Birthday BBQ/10th Anniv.in CA party w/an '80s celebrity theme & one of my best friends came dressed as Cindi Lauper! Too funny.

Greg Brady? Oh cummmmmmmm-onnnn people! It's Dave Foley! From "Kids in the Hall" fame, but perhaps better known by you yanks as the Newstalk Radio guy. Guess it would take a Canadian to recognize that one, (or perhaps anyone who's watched celebrity poker lately). The manouvre he's doing with his hand isn't a gang sing either....."I'm crushing you!" (again, I'm probably the only one whom gets that gag - guess I better run out and get the trivia game.

Roddy Piper!

"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum."

sweet-ass-sweet

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 5:51 PM

Sorry Robin - as a fellow Canadian - that is NOT Dave Foley. Ummm, first - too big a head. And that isn't the crushing your head, remember, it is more of a pinching move?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 7:15 PM

Sorry robin, your Canadar is a little off kilter...that's definitely not Dave Foley. Roddy Piper is Canadian, too, though.

That's not Kareem Abdul-Jabar. You must have him confused with someone else. His name is Roger Murdoch. He's the co-pilot.

Ok, it couldn't be Greg Brady since the Brady Bunch was in the '70s & the ad is for the '80s trivial pursuit. But it is definitely NOT Dave Foley, cause I was a 'Kids In The Hall' fan & I know what Dave Foley looks like and that madam is no Dave Foley! So it's gotta be Lou Ferrigno. "Blame Canada, Blame Canada!"(from Southpark: Bigger, Longer & Uncut)lol!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY DAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll be sending you flowers and chocolates, and sleeping on my couch for not remembering. :)

All you guys would totally kick ass at this Trivial Pursuit game. Impressive! I did recognize Cyndi Lauper, though. Not bad considering I lived a measly two years in the 80s. I'm waiting on the edge of my seat for the 90s edition. The commercial will be fabulous. I imagine O.J. Simpson, John Stamos, and Bill Clinton dancing together to an Ace of Base song. Dreams CAN come true.

I'm sitting here with the boy, and he is CONVINCED that the, uh, person dressed as Cyndi Lauper is Haley Joel Osment. I know it shows "Heather" in the lower left corner, but I'm starting to wonder. Dan, did you do any Photoshopping?

By Anonymous the girl, at 4:34 PM

you would look so cute dressed up a cyndi for halloween!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:46 PM

That's Rowdy Roddy?

He was the only one I couldn't peg. I even got Phillip Michael Thomas.

They did omit something significant from the '80s lineup: the VD I got from a Tri Delt.

But that would have been such a downer.

DAN, This was actually the prototype for my 3rd grade Cyndi Lauper costume!! I used this to make the perfect costume and I rocked it at my Catholic School Halloween carnival!! I was so excited to see this!

By Anonymous Jacqui, at 9:01 AM

"Cyndi even wears a braclet on her ankle!" How progressive?!?!?!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:42 PM

cyndi lauper actually directed that commercial which is why she wasn't in it but is in the ad. I know, what a tough job to tell those has beens to jump around and dance but what a job she did, the commercial is life changing.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:50 AM

I got the game for my birthday. It's really hard ! the questions are a lot more difficult than I figured "80's" would be.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:13 PM

That Cyndi looks like a Very Special Blossom.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:47 PM

Hey! The girl in the Cyndi Lauper tutorial, Heather Henson, is Jim Henson's daughter...which would make it a scan from "Muppets Magazine" circa fall 1984.

I totally remember that issue...

By Anonymous Colin, at 12:51 AM

It looks like Lou Ferrigno - - the Hulk in the back. And not Greg Brady

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:27 AM

Kareem, Lou Forigno, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Run DMC (Darryl), Miami Vice Tubbs, Tiffany, Charlene Tilton, Kelly Le Brock. Charlotte Rae, Dowtown Julie Brown,
