What could have been.

I made this for my mom for Mother's Day because I try to steer clear of the syrupy sentimental stuff, but I gotta admit that I think I actually look pretty bad ass:

Little does my mother know that the only reason I didn't totally go punk in senior high school was because I couldn't pull it off. In fact, my one attempt at a cool alternative-style hair-do ended up looking more pageboy than skater boy:

dan, circa 1992

Nice try, dan, but no cigar. Or maybe it was the collegiate preppy-guy sweatshirt that was making it hard for me to complete the look and sell the attitude. Although I do recall purchasing a bad-ass magnetic stud earring at Two-Plus-Two (because my mom wouldn't allow actual male piercings in her house - hmmm, maybe my mama did influence my overall appearance after all).

Oh well. At least I wasn't into crappy country music like the rest of my graduating class. I refuse to even photoshop what I might have looked like had I gone down that tired old path.

I would have been envious of your hair in junior high, Dan. I tried, and failed, to have hair just like that around '93

You WISH you had biceps like that punk guy!

not joking at all when i say you should make a male- and female- template of that shot and sell them, starting about a month before mom's day.

not joking, i'd pay $15. for a nice glossy of that with boobs and my face, and an envelope. and make a "priceless" commercial out of my mom's reaction, too!!

I couldn't agree more about how much I HATED how country music became so damn popular in HS.

Seeing a massive tool from New Hope wearing a cowboy hat everywhere (think Taco Bell, Twins Game, etc) made me want to puke.

for whatever reason the second picture bothers me more than the first one.

Could you photoshop one of me preggo for my mom for Mother's Day? OMG she'd freak for a Dan Miller original.

You came so close to pulling off punk...remember you flirted with friendship with that little blonde Sara girl that was friends with meg and you had a Rave hat that you got at target...

My little colored bead necklace and batboy and cindy Brady t-shirt just made me look like a fat nerd that was just trying too hard... I would have loved to pull off punk

I also got a mini hair extention in like 10th grade and in 8th I had that shaved on the side long on the other haircut...I seriously wonder how my parents loved me during that particularly ackward, ugly phase in my life ...

Dan, big fan. I totally ripped off your idea, but gave credit where credit is due. My (badly done) photo shop punk creation had the extra added appeal of near nudity. My mom, who rarely swears, actually shouted "OH S*^T" upon opening it. Thanks for the inspiration for this gift, which will be cherished for years to come.
