I'm confused as to why I am so in love with my new 1973 Seeburg Matador Jukebox and all the classic 45s that it plays. I know I just got it last Sunday, but I can't stop looking at it and fondling it and dreaming about it and rubbing up against it: ![]() What confuses me is that it basically does the same job as my iPod, yet it's a thousand times bigger, a million times heavier, holds over 59,000 less songs, sounds crappier, and is harder to find music for. And yet I love it so much more. ![]() Five people nearly died trying to get it into my house, and I appreciate it dearly. I told them they will each get three free song plays for their efforts. And wait until Christmas when I stock it full of Xmas tunes! Until then, you can see which songs I stocked it with for the inaugural juke party (dates to be determined) by clicking here. But don't mock my taste in music. Most of those records were purchased in the 80's. ::: posted by dan at 6:06 PM :: [ link ] :: (17) comments ![]() ![]() ![]()

By , at 11:00 PM AWESOME Makes me think of cheap pizza, pop in red plastic cups and begging dad for a quarter. Where did you get it? By , at 7:16 AM I got it on Craigslist. There were surprisingly many to choose from, which led me to believe that this was the type of purchase that many people in the past had regretted, but I can't see myself feeling the same way ever. By dan, at 8:56 AM Dan this is the best purchase ever! And I think "Jam Up & Jelly Tight" by Tommy Roe should be your new theme song. I'm totally happy for you! -yetanotherdan By , at 10:59 AM I'm super jealous of the jukebox song cards. Did the jukebox come with them or did you have them made? Where can I get me some? By Erik, at 1:45 PM OMG, it's *beautiful!!* By TD, at 3:27 PM valid. shouldn't those steps have a hand rail? By , at 3:34 PM First, the jukebox is awesome! Second, it looks like someone beat the pedophile charges & got out of jail. By otimak, at 3:37 PM This, quite plainly, RULES. By Derek, at 7:19 PM Its called nostalgia. You will get sick of it soon enough. By , at 9:45 PM Nice to see you enjoyed mainstream music at one time in your life, Dan. Most of the stuff you talk about now is waaaaaaaay to obscure for me (of course, it will forever be 1988 in my mind when it comes to music). As a coincidence, my word verification is "ktelf," most of which is K-Tel. How apropos for a jukebox/45 entry. Solid Gold! By , at 9:58 AM I love you Planet Dan, and you rarely make any egregious grammatical errors (part of why I love you), and I know this is just a blog, and I know this is a run-on, BUT ... it holds 59,000 FEWER songs, not less. Thanks. xo By , at 10:28 AM Oh no! That less vs. fewer error is one of the most annoying to me and I made the mistake myself! I also have issues with borrow vs. lend and I can't stand people who say "acrossed" instead of "across". I'm going to leave the mistake up as a reminder to be more diligent with my own grammar. By dan, at 11:01 AM PLEASE invite me to the party! I think I might want to leave my husband and family for you. We were meant to be together. By , at 3:29 PM Coolest. Thing. EVAR!!!
